    Mayor Sam Adams Is Samdroid at Stumptown Comics Fest!

    The Alter Egos Society, a local organization that throws amazing costumed events for charities like p:ear, issued a challenge to Portland this year with Project Mayor-Man: design an original superhero costume for Mayor Sam Adams to wear to this year’s Stumptown Comics Fest. The city responded with gusto, and Manny McIvor’s design was eventually chosen and brought to life by the talented costume makers of the Alter Egos Society.

    Video: Learn How to Enter Project Mayor-Man

    We’ve already talked about the Alter Egos Society’s epic Project Mayor-Man challenge: you design a superhero costume for Portland, Oregon Mayor Sam Adams, and they pick the winner and create it! Adams will then wear his spiffy new suit to Stumptown Comics Fest April 16 and 17, posing for pictures and raising funds for p:ear, an organization that mentors homeless youth. Plus, the winner receives free tickets to Stumptown, plus a $100 prize! View the nifty video below:

    Project Mayor-Man: Bring Portland’s Mayor to the Stumptown Comics Fest

    Project Mayor-ManSetting the stage for a quest of epic proportions, Mayor Sam Adams is scheduled to attend Stumptown Comics Fest 2011 April 16 and 17, and he needs the city’s help to make sure he appears in a suitable superhero alter ego!

    Operating as code name: PROJECT MAYOR-MAN, the minds behind the Stumptown Comics Fest and the Alter Egos Society have teamed up to clad our good sport of a mayor in proper attire, and they seek the creative minds of Portland to help design the right costume concept.

    “Portland’s designers are up to this challenge,” said Benja Barker, founder of the Alter Egos Society. “This challenge will highlight the incredible creative talent we have in Portland, from the fashion industry to the visual arts community and beyond.”

    Things From Another World is a proud sponsor of this event! The quest to design our mayor’s original superhero costume will begins now and runs through the end of the month, with submissions closing on February 28.

    The top PROJECT MAYOR-MAN designs will be announced March 7, with the winning costume design turned over to the talented costumers of the Alter Egos Society for fabrication. Plus, the winning designer will receive free access to all Stumptown Comics Fest events and a cash prize of $100!

    All attendees of Stumptown Comics Fest will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the costumed mayor, as well as purchase prints featuring Mayor Sam Adams in his original superhero costume, with proceeds going to benefit the local non-profit p:ear, which provides services for homeless and transitional youth.
